What is Envirodigital?
Envirodigital is a lighthouse brand, guiding the creative and digital industries in an environmentally friendly direction through consultancy on carbon emission-saving digital content production. We know that getting digital can facilitate being greener and we help organisations create truly economically and ecologically sound digital developments and productions. We seek to encourage the combination of digital technology and creative innovation for environmental resilience. Building the scale of live events and content by using digital production tools, digital distribution channels, and digital consumption methods such as mobile and web ensures that carbon, waste and water outputs are not increased even as scale, reach, impact and accessibility are improved.
Envirodigital helps organisations to build environmental resilience by working with you through consultancy, and as a co-producer on digital elements of live productions. We can help you:
- think about why to make environmentally friendly changes;
- decide what environmentally friendly changes to make – especially using clean, digital technologies;
- create, plan and produce digital versions of live events and other content;
- work out how to count the environmental impact of digital technologies and content;
- work out how you can benefit environmentally from your digital, online audience communities;
- consider what new low-carbon opportunities present themselves due to new digital ways of working; and
- .
Why?
Most importantly: the earth and it’s resources can’t sustain growth as we currently experience it. But we can still grow the scale, reach, accessibility and impact of live productions without causing a negative environmental impact.But also,
It’s government legislation: The Climate Change Act 2008 (Climate Change Scotland Act 2009) makes the UK the first country in the world to have a legally binding long-term framework to cut carbon emissions. The Climate Change Bill contains provisions that will set a legally binding target for reducing UK carbon dioxide emission by at least 26 per cent by 2020 and at least 60 per cent by 2050, compared to 1990 levels. In Scotland, its 42% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. It also creates a framework for building the UK’s ability to adapt to climate change. All businesses are being asked to play their part, and Envirodigital is working with the Scottish Government’s 2020 Climate Group to help the Creative Industries think about how the sector reduces its impact. Your customers demand it: ʻEco awareness’ has been embraced by the mainstream. Customers are beginning to think about and demand transparency on how environmentally friendly the organisations they engage with actually are. Many corporations currently have good intentions with carbon offsetting and neutralising programmes, but serious results will depend on making products and processes more sustainable without consumers even noticing. Customers are demanding that organisations make positive environmental changes; governments may well soon force sustainable changes – does your organisation have the corporate guts as well as the smart design and thinking to ensure getting more sustainable actually happens?
Your people will be empowered by it: workers in organisations are happier if they feel empowered to make the same environmentally sustainable choices at work as they can at home (work can have integrity, too).
Your business will be more economically and socially sustainable: sustainability does not have to be motivated by altruism (and it is far more likely to be effective when it is not). It helps to reduce carbon, water and waste emissions, and with soaring energy costs and water shortages, organisations have to manage their energy use as effectively as their bottom lines.
Your business will be more ethical: good practices generate good money.
